Historian Poo-Poos Stern's Potty Mouth PASADENA, Calif. (Wireless Flash) -- Howard Stern may be in seventh heaven now that he can throw around the F-word on Sirius Satellite Radio and not get fined, but an astronaut historian says it's all been done before.
According to Rod Pyle, author of "Destination Moon: The Apollo Missions in the Astronauts' Own Words" (Harper Collins), Apollo 16 astronaut John Young was one of the first to drop the F-Bomb both in and on air.
Pyle says Young complained to fellow astronaut Charlie Duke that he "had the farts again" caused by some oranges he ate.
Unaware that he was speaking into a live mic being broadcast worldwide, he then said, "In another 12 f***ing days, I ain't eatin' any more!"
While having a potty mouth has made Stern millions, Pyle says, "Using that level of language in that era could have cost [Young] his career."
